How can we help?
Start here when you get stuck in Retic. If you can't find what you need, just send us an email.
Goals, tasks & habits
Retic organizes everything as a tree: goals can hold smaller goals, and goals hold your tasks and habits. Write down who you want to become as a big goal, then press Enter to break it into smaller goals and today's to-dos.
A task is something you finish once. A habit repeats on the days or schedule you choose. A goal is a container for the items under it, so it shows a progress gauge that fills up instead of a checkbox.
4 ways to measure a goal
- Milestone
- Calculated automatically from the tasks, habits, and smaller goals under it. Nothing to enter.
- Numeric
- Measures how far you've come from a start value to a target (read 12 books, lose 5 kg).
- Pass/fail
- Records only whether you did it (get a certification).
- Consistency
- Measures the average rate at which you kept the habits under it over a period.
Ways to track a habit
- Check
- Check it off once when you've done it (meditate, take a walk).
- Quantity
- Add up numbers toward a daily target (2 L of water, 50 push-ups).
- Avoid
- A "don't do" habit. Every day counts as kept unless you log a slip (quit smoking).
- Linked to sub-tasks
- The day counts as done when you finish all the tasks under the habit.
How progress fills upward
When you finish a task or keep a habit, progress on the goal it belongs to goes up automatically. When a smaller goal fills up, the bigger goal above it fills too, so today's check-off travels all the way to your top goal. No manual math, no copying numbers around.
A milestone goal averages the progress of the items under it. A finished task counts as 100%, and a habit counts by how often you kept it during the goal's period. Numeric, pass/fail, and consistency goals measure progress by their own values.
You can't mark an item complete while it still has unfinished items under it. Finish things from the bottom up and the items above wrap up too.
Habit tracking & streaks
Check off habits right from the Today view or the tree. To see or fix past days, open the habit's settings and use its history calendar.
A streak (🔥) is how many scheduled days in a row you kept the habit. Rest days don't count, so they won't break it. For habits set as a number of times per week, the streak counts consecutive weeks where you hit the target. For avoid habits, it counts the days since your last slip.
Billing & refunds
Retic is in free beta, so every Pro feature is free right now. After the beta, the Free plan lets you keep up to 5 goals in progress, and Pro has no goal limit. Goals you've already made stay put.
Web payments are processed by Paddle, and Android app payments by Google Play. When you start Pro on the web, your first 7 days are free. Cancel any time: for web payments from Manage subscription in the profile menu, and for app payments from Subscriptions in the Play Store.
If you paid on the web, you can request a full refund within 14 days of your first payment. See the Refund Policy for details.
Data, sync & account deletion
When you're signed in, your goals and history are saved to our servers and sync automatically to any device where you sign in with the same account. If you don't sign in, everything stays only on the device (browser) you're using.
In Settings > Support & info > Export your data you can download your goals, tasks, habits, and history as files: All data (JSON), Item list (CSV), or Habit history (CSV). It works without signing in too.
You can delete your account yourself from Settings > Account. Deletion happens right away and can't be undone.
Frequently asked questions
When does Pro start costing money?
Retic is in free beta, so every Pro feature is free right now. We haven't set an end date for the beta yet, and we'll let you know ahead of time once we do. The Free plan stays free after the beta.
What happens if I have more than 5 goals on the Free plan?
The Free plan lets you keep up to 5 goals in progress. Completed goals don't count, and there's no limit on habits and tasks inside your goals. If you created more than 5 goals during the beta, they all stay after the beta ends and you can keep tracking them. You just can't add more until you complete or archive a goal to make room.
How does goal progress fill up?
When you finish a task or keep a habit, progress on the goals above it goes up automatically. A standard (milestone) goal combines the progress of the tasks, habits, and smaller goals under it, so when a smaller goal fills up, the bigger goal above it fills too. Number-based goals measure how close your current value is to your target.
How are habit streaks counted?
A streak is how many scheduled days in a row you kept the habit. Days you've set as rest days don't count, so they won't break your streak. For habits set as a number of times per week, the streak counts consecutive weeks where you hit the target. For "don't do" habits, it counts the days since you last slipped.
Can I use Retic without signing in?
Yes, you can try it right away without an account. Without signing in, your data is saved only on this device (browser), and you can keep up to 3 goals in progress. When you sign up, or sign in to an empty account, the goals and habits you've made come with you.
Which devices can I use Retic on?
Right now Retic works in any web browser (app.retic.io), including on your phone. Sign in with the same account and your data syncs across devices automatically. An Android app is on its way to Google Play.
How do I cancel my subscription?
If you paid on the web, cancel any time from Manage subscription in the app's profile menu. If you paid in the Android app, cancel from Subscriptions in the Play Store. After you cancel, Pro stays on until the end of the period you've already paid for, then your account moves to the Free plan. Your goals and history aren't deleted.
Can I get a refund?
If you paid on the web, you can request a full refund within 14 days of your first payment. Email your account address and receipt to [email protected]. There's nothing to refund during the free trial, because you haven't been charged. If you paid in the Android app (Google Play), request a refund through the Play Store or contact [email protected].
Can I export my data?
Yes. Go to Settings > Support & info > Export your data and pick one of three files: All data (JSON), Item list (CSV), or Habit history (CSV). CSV files open in any spreadsheet app. It works without signing in too, so use it for backups or to move to another app.
How do I delete my account?
Go to Settings > Account in the app and tap Delete account. Deletion happens right away and can't be undone. A web subscription is canceled at the same time, and if it's been less than 14 days since your first payment, you get a full refund automatically. If you can't get into the app, email [email protected] from the address you signed up with.
